The season starts with the murder of a young boy in a small coastal town, named Broadchurch. First the disappearance and the death of the child under mysterious circumstances creates a media frenzy. Since it’s a small town, and everyone knows everyone, this death has a toll on everyone, as everyone is now a suspect.
DI Alec Hardy played by David Tenet, and D.S. Ellie Miller, played by Olivia Colman, are assigned to the case. Alec has his past failures haunting him and following him even in this secluded town.
With each town member under the lens of suspension, it is looked upon, it is relieved that this seemingly simple town has its own hidden secrets. Making it an exciting watch for the audience.
Season 2 and 3 are more focused on the trial of the culprit and the back and hurdles that the legal system faces to bring justice to the little boys murder.
This is one of those series which will set your standard too high.This is a slow pace, well written and well performed series.
The casting is just perfect. Especially David Tenet, Olivia Colman and Jodi Whittaker. If you haven’t seen them in any other series or movie before, this series will make you google them and search for their previous performances.(Since they are British, you might know them that well, but two of the three have been Dr. WHO and Olivia later won an Oscar as well.)
I personally fell in love with the backdrop and the chilled country vibe.
The music was very calming and apt.
The story and direction was very meticulous and made sure that the audience was given all clues but still made sure audience should get a shock when the final culprit is revealed.
